The article deals with cross-border cooperation, an important component of the European neighbourhood policy, and presents a comparative analysis of cross-border cooperation initiatives in the Mediterranean area. The implementation of this policy is based on a mixture of local adaptations, and produces both homogenization and differentiations. The objective of this study is to see how a single policy instrument (cross-border cooperation within the European neighbourhood policy) is adapted to the specificities of each mesoregion, and the role of the Euro is supposed to play in this part of the Mediterranean area.
