The arrival of irregular foreigners to Spain and Italy still arousing media interest and leads to the perception that there is a problem of immigration control in the Mediterranean countries. However, it is argued here that Mediterranean migratory regimes presents a positive balance that contrasts with the situation of precariousness which often attributed to them. The analysis focuses on two fundamental aspects of Mediterranean migratory patterns: border control systems and the realization of periodic adjustments, whose comparison not only responding to the search for similarities and differences between Italy and Spain but wants to clarify the role played by these two countries in the management of “unwanted” flows to Europe since the beginning of the 90s until now.
