The phenomenon of the Euroregions is currently the main expression of cross-border and interregional cooperation born in the 1960’s, on the initiative of the Council of Europe with the aim of contributing to the creation of close links between the topic of old disputes between France and Germany and between the border between these two neighbouring countries and other States (BelgiumThe Netherlands and Luxembourg). Therefore, since its origins, cross-border cooperation has assumed a strong symbolic value: overcoming the old divisions of the State and to identify regional common interests (economic, social and cultural rights) that extend across borders. Despite some difficulties, the development of cross-border in general cooperation and Euroregions has particularly benefited the European integration process.
